Dussehra Roller Count: Bird Count India

The Dussehra Roller Count is a citizen science initiative organised by IISER Tirupati, IIT Tirupati, Krea University, and the Tirupati Nature Society, in collaboration with Bird Count India and bird enthusiasts from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and Telangana. This project focuses on the Indian Roller, an insectivorous bird that is culturally significant and important for maintaining healthy agricultural ecosystems. As the state bird of Karnataka, Telangana, and Odisha, its decline underscores the need for monitoring and conserving open habitat birds. Participants can go birding any day between October 3 and 12, 2024, count and observe birds from anywhere in the four states, and upload their findings to eBird. By counting and reporting Indian Roller sightings, we can contribute to tracking its population in various open habitats.
