A survey conducted in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur, two coastal districts of Odisha recorded 179 Mangrove Pittas. The census was carried out by point count method, either by walking in the forest or using country boats in the creeks. The Mangrove Pitta is a near-threatened bird found in only a few pockets of Odisha and West Bengal. This survey can help in subsequent population analysis and conservation of the species.
