IIT Jodhpur Proposes Crowdsourced Bird Data To Define Ecoregions In Thar Desert

Researchers at IIT Jodhpur have highlighted the use of crowd sourced bird data to define ecoregions. A study conducted in Thar Desert found the presence of a zone exhibiting high habitat fragmentation due to human activities and emphasised its evolving nature as an ecoregion. The study highlighted the significance of crowdsourced bird data as a biota-based tool for understanding established ecoregions in Thar desert. The Thar Desert was previously considered a single ecoregion, while the recent study has identified four distinct ecoregions in the desert.
