Announcement by Minister of Tourism and Culture Affairs of Punjab to hold kite flying contests has been severly criticised by bird-lovers in the state. Kite flying contests during festivals lead to many cases of injured birds and a lack of Government hospitals or medical facility in Punjab to handle emergency cases puts the pressure on private NGOs and local bird lovers.
